Flowers in Chinese Medicine

Lonicera Flower or Honeysuckle, Jin Yin Hua

Jin Yin Hua is native to many places, especially temperate climes, but has also been found in the Himalayas. The flower is used medicinally, entering the Lung, Stomach and Large Intestine meridians of the body. It has a detoxifying, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral quality. It also reduces inflammation. Among other conditions, it is often used to treat fever, colds, flu, sore throat, bronchitis.

Viola Flower, Zi Hua Di Ding

Zi Hua Di Ding works through the Liver and Heart meridians. It detoxifies and has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and fever reducing qualities. Among other uses, Zi Hua Di Ding is used to dissolve masses, swellings and sores. It is an ancient remedy for snake bite.

Pagoda Flower or Sophorae Flower, Huai Hua

Huai Hua is native throughout China. It is used to treat some types of bleeding such as hemorrhoids, uterine bleeding and bloody dysentery. It works through the Liver and Large Intestine meridians.

Lotus Flower, Lian Zi Xin

Lian Zi Xin is probably the most well known Chinese flower and is rich with spiritual significance. Its symbolism  includes purity that grows from its habitat of mud into a plant of great beauty. It is native to western Asia.

Some types of bleeding such as nosebleeds are treated with Lian Zi Xin. It is also used to treat fever and irritability. Lian Zi Xin works through the Heart and Kidney meridians.
