The Nobel Prize and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Youyou Tu, a researcher in Traditional Chinese Medicine, received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2015 for development of the anti-malarial drug Artemisinin. It is said to save 100,000 lives a year.

Attributing her inspiration to ancient Chinese medical texts, Tu has researched Chinese herb for dozens of years. The anti-malarial breakthrough was found in a 1700 year old Chinese herbal prescription. You can hear her Nobel lecture with English translation here:
